How long have you been a published author and what’s your main goal for the future?
I’m brand new to the author business. I published my first romance novel on Sept. 1, 2016. I wrote it in January of 2015 and knew nothing about the entire publishing business so I spent a few months looking around at all of the ins and outs of publishing. I talked to numerous authors and editors about what my next step should be before deciding to go the self-publishing route.
My main goal for the near future is to continue honing my writing skills while finishing my first series, Assured Distraction. The series started out as four books but I’ve had readers send me messages asking for two extra characters to have their own book. I am now giving that a lot of thought as to whether there is a story for them both. One will have to be a done as a flashback and the other will involve a character who has to grow up fast.
My future goal is to write some YA fiction under my real name. I have the story ideas already stored away. They need to be written though. They will be fun stories appealing to boys about hunting, fishing, playing in the marshlands and riding ATV’s. There is a huge need for this genre to be fleshed out since there are so few of the books available and boys need these stories.
If you were to get a tattoo that represented your work, what would it be and why?
I would get a line of musical notes if I was going to entertain the idea of marking my skin with a tattoo. My books are about rock stars. They are wild guys who are only serious about playing music, having fun and loving women. It’s my favorite genre to read, too. I can’t put a number to the amount of rock star romances I’ve read.
I wouldn’t get a tattoo though. I don’t think there is a need to mark my skin with something that permanent. My husband and I gave my daughter beautiful skin that she’s marked up everywhere, and I still don’t understand her need to wear art. I suppose I’m too fickle to decide on anything that is so perfect I would need to wear it for the rest of my life.
If you were to see a couple arguing to the point of violence, what would you do and why?
First, I would have to step in before violence occurred. I suffer from the middle child syndrome as the peace keeper. I still do some intervening in my family as we can’t always get along. I hate confrontation personally so I try to settle things swiftly before they get out of hand. I can’t sit back and let two people destroy each other through words and actions they eventually will regret later.
I taught middle school kids for 34 years and refereed a lot of arguments to keep them from getting out of hand. If you’ve ever dealt with thirteen year old hormonal boys and girls for a long period of time, you have to develop some skills for negotiating or quit the job. Now that’s something they don’t teach you in college.
We’ve all heard the stories about celebrities being stalked, or worse. What’s your biggest fear about being in the public eye and why?
I write of this often in my books because my main characters are rock stars. They suffer at the hands of the fans who sometimes get overzealous with their attention. I can’t imagine my life being so terrorized by people like a huge star is.
My biggest fear before I allowed people to attach my real name to my books was them being judgmental of the erotic scenes I chose to include in my books. I live in a small town where I grew up and it’s a conservative place with strong Christian values. I decided up front that I did not want anyone in my personal life to know I was writing what some would call porn. Even my own adult children didn’t know I was writing. I made my husband swear to secrecy of my identity.
After the first book came out though, I decided I was a grown woman, and if I wanted to write my books a certain way, people needed to get over it. I haven’t worried too much about it since then. A few funny things has come out of it though. My friends are shocked that I would be the one writing including so much profanity in my books. I don’t use language like that in my real life and they were a little shocked with it. The second thing is my daughters. They’ve had a lot of laughs at my expense reading my books and telling their friends about it.
Office Sex, Rooftop Sex or Haunted House Sex—which one would you rather do and and why?
I think I would have to go with Rooftop sex. I like idea of being outdoors. There’s just something about being under the stars and enjoying nature that relaxes me and allows me to be free to enjoy fun things in life. I think the voyeurism aspect of it is exciting as well. I wouldn’t know if someone was watching or not but the idea that they could be watching would add to the pleasure.
If you were to try BDSM for the first time, would you be a domme or a submissive and why?
I would have to be a domme because there is nothing about me that is submissive. I married at eighteen (and still married to him almost forty years later). We grew up together for the first ten years or so, our sex lives included. I’ve always been a strong willed person and don’t think I could handle the entire idea of anyone telling me what, how or when. We’ve never ventured into those roles because we both enjoy being on equal footing or taking turns being “the top”. I doubt I could give up total authority to him or anyone else.
I had a chance recently to visit a BDSM club and there were both doms and dommes playing. It was extremely interesting to me but the more I watched the play going on, the more I knew that I could never submit to someone that way.
Have you ever read a sex scene in an erotic novel and said to yourself—WTF?
Yes, I’ve read some scenes and thought, what did I just read? Sometimes either from too much or lack of description, I couldn’t picture the scene even being possible. Some positions were just not even possible. I don’t care how bendable you are, that’s just not going to work. One particular book I read had a MFM scene in a playroom of a sensei. After tying the sub using Shibari or Kinbaku, the two used to pulley to lift her off the ground. OK, I was still following. Next, they proceeded to double penetrate her and I just couldn’t picture that happening from any height. Seemed like the author either didn’t give enough of an explanation or I was too dumb to get it.
Which popular phrase best describes your writing and why?
My writing style would best be described as “Why can’t we all just get along?” I like things ending all tied up in a nice neat little package. I don’t want any character’s problems left wondering for the reader. I don’t like people ending things being angry either. When I write an epilogue, it’s going to sum it all up or straighten out all of the kinks, fights or arguments. It makes me mad when authors leave pieces of lives hanging for the reader to figure it out. Just spell it out for me! I would never leave a corner undone.
I have a very difficult time writing teasers for books because of this. My editor insisted I write the prologue or the first three chapters for the second book in the series to include at the back of book one. I felt all wrong doing so. I knew where the next book in my series was headed but I hadn’t set any decisions in stone yet. The entire time I was writing it, I almost angry because one of my characters was fighting mad at another and I had to leave them there.
What is something in your daily life that makes you sad and happy, and why?
My ideas about this have changed so many times over the years. What makes me sad to the point of sitting down and crying is seeing my loved ones suffering for reasons I can’t offer any help for. When my children are hurting, I hurt for them because usually I have no control over their problems like I did when they were young. Their adult problems are bigger than my range of possibilities. We spend so much time when they are children taking care of them that when they get older we expect them to be able to do that for themselves but life doesn’t always work out that way.
What makes me happy is much more simple than it used to be. Watching others doing things that make them happy, now makes me happy. I don’t need to be in control of this happiness they seek for themselves. I can now sit back and watch it unfold.
What would you pick for sensuous food combinations?
I love sweets so whatever I put together is going to be sweet. I wrote a scene in His Distraction with Ryan blindfolding Peri and lavishing her body in warm melted chocolate. It’s a very sensuous scene that the two characters enjoy themselves immensely playing in.
I would also include several different kinds of juicy fruits cut into bite sized portions. Strawberries, grapes, figs, and peaches would all be on my menu because they are sweet and juicy. What better way to enjoy feeding someone is there than getting to lick the juices as they run down the body?
Another item I would include is whipped crème. It’s light, sweet and can be placed anywhere! Licking it off any body part is a great way to start a night of fun.
