JF Silver  J.F. Silver

We never know which road life will take us down. J. F. Silver always wanted to write but a lifetime of work and family happened, passing all too quickly while his dream got pushed aside. Who knew, all these years later, that his passion would return in the form of hot group-sex stories? He’s so grateful to be able to share them and loves dreaming up new fantasies for his characters to experience.
Today, he lives in Wisconsin with the love of his life, his soul mate, and the inspiration for all his work. Besides sex and writing about it, his passions include baseball, music, playing the drums, his two daughters, and especially, spoiling his grandchildren. He never gave up on his dream of being a writer. He just took the scenic route.

What’s Your Next Release or WIP?

I just finished the fourth “Mr. and Mrs.” story, called “Life’s Too Short.” It’s tentatively scheduled for release in November and includes a very sexy Christmas scenario. So, I’m looking forward to doing some hot promos for the holidays this year. I’ll be doing as many events as I can.

Which Novel Do You Consider Your Masterpiece?

I’m most proud of “Life’s Too Short,” the one I just finished. My first two books were basically a series of sex scenes I’d written years earlier that I formed into a fun, loose narrative. After the third released last fall, there was some discussion about ending the series but we still had places to take these characters. The plan was to have them come into some money but how to achieve that? My muse and I decided that the female characters in the series, Elaine and Mika, were going to write a book together. So, we have a book about writing a book amidst all the other hi-jinks my characters are famous for. It took nearly a year to write and is also my first full length novel – 56K – epic for me!

What Kind of Sex Scene is the Hardest for You to Write?

My books have so many group situations, sometimes three, more times four, and they seem to come easiest. I feel lucky to have the flexibility to use our characters in various combinations which can lead to just about anything. It sounds silly for a series titled, “Mrs. and Mrs.,” but the hardest sex scenes for me to write are the one man – one woman scenes. To keep them fresh and different, Joe and Elaine are often inspired by another fantasy.

Wine, Liquor, or Beer – Why and Which Brands?

Great question, John. There is a considerable amount of drinking in the Mr. and Mrs. Average Joe series. The series is set in our hometown, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which is known for its breweries. We used to be big beer drinkers though not much anymore. If I indulge, a Miller Lite or Coors Light would be my choice. We generally prefer white wines these days, nothing too dry. Our favorite is Riesling and we’re not picky. We’ve found many brands we like for under ten dollars a bottle. Early on, I made one of our characters a wine expert with a nice cellar full of expensive vintages. I’ll admit, researching this was fun.

Which Sexual Event Do You Remember Fondly – First Time, Second Time, or Last Time?

This one’s easy. Last Time which was just, um, last night! Hey after all these years, we’ve still got it and managed to pull off something we’d hadn’t done in a while. No more details forthcoming but we know stuff now that we didn’t way back when. Besides, our first time and second time were literally just minutes apart. We’ve been at this for a long time.

What’s the Last Question You Asked Google or Equivalent?

My last search was for photos of sexy women wearing Santa hats. I’m already planning holiday promos for “Life’s Too Short.” In no way do I want to imply that I’m ready for Christmas! I love it but it’s coming too fast!

Viagra / Female Viagra – Yes or No and Why?

Viagra – absolutely yes! I’ve used it for years in real life and it’s discussed openly in my books. I think it adds realism, is age appropriate and available to us. Why not use it? Sadly, we know people who are afraid to have the conversation for whatever reason. I would love if my stories encouraged someone to at least talk about it. As for Female Viagra, I asked the muse and she said, as long as I’m around, she shouldn’t need it.

Ever Written Anything You Wouldn’t Do In Real Life?

I’ve written a zillion things that I haven’t done but we have a “never say never” attitude when it comes to sex. After all these years together, the fantasies are fun to create and, who knows? Life’s too short to say never.

What’s The Hardest Thing For You While Writing?

The hardest thing is turning it on when I need to. As a writer, your mind is always going, at least mine is. All day, I can have a great idea brewing in my head only to hit the wall when I stare at the screen in front of me. Typical, I would imagine.

Have You Ever Been in a Situation Where You Contemplated Your Mortality?

I come from a family where people tend to die young. Each year passes and I wonder, why am I the one still around? It’s helped me learn to be grateful and I try get this feeling into my books. I don’t want to call it a “bucket list,” but the characters are always looking to experience new things. This is even more evident in, “Life’s Too Short.” The title kind of says it all.

How Forthcoming Are You at Admitting You’re an Erotica Writer to Strangers?

I really don’t have much of a problem with it. Of course, it depends on the situation and audience. My wife is thrilled to introduce me as her erotica author husband, knowing she helped inspire my stories. Maybe the fact that I didn’t start writing until fifty made it easier. We came out in a big way last year in a newspaper interview and morning radio show which were great for exposure but caused some fallout with family. Every published erotica writer has to deal with resistance or intolerance from someone. It just comes with the territory. At this point in our lives, we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished and love talking about it.

You Have One Hour For Sex. In What Increments Do You Split the 60 Minutes Into Foreplay, Actual Sex, and Post-Coital Bonding/Afterglow?

Well, from personal experience, an hour is enough time for plenty of great sex. With this much time, foreplay is critical. I’d devote 30 minutes to a slow, sexy build up. Some dirty talk, flirting, slow, deliberate clothes removal leading of course, to oral. Who goes first doesn’t matter, hell, try a 69, that’s always nice. Once good and warmed up, 20 minutes should be ample time for the actual sex. You may even be able to try a couple different positions before the big finale. That leaves 10 minutes for the mushy bonding/afterglow part. If you don’t fall asleep.

Create a New Curse Word / Erotic Term and It’s Definition.

Okay, full disclosure: I didn’t create this word but was graciously granted permission to use it by a fellow author. I really don’t know what means so I will create my own definition. Here goes:
CONFUCKTOGATED: To be totally consumed by a major clusterfuck. Like, totally fucked. Um, yeah, that.

How Old Were You When You Saw Your First Example of Porn – Tell Us?

I remember being in a friend’s basement (sounds creepy, right?) with an old projector and a small reel of film. We were maybe 14 and they were called, “stag movies” back then. My friend had snuck them from his uncle’s stash or something I believe. We’d seen Playboy magazines but that was the first time we watched actual sex. It was quite enlightening.

Thanks for a Truly Entertaining Interview, J.F.
