Frey Ortega writes erotic romance, primarily of the gay variety. He lives in what a friend affectionately calls “the south-easternmost part of Spain,” which is an archipelago called the Philippines. He’s a graduate of the Royal, Pontifical, and Catholic University in Manila, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology. Primarily, he works as a writer, a novelist, sometimes a video game journalist, and overall a homebody who spends way too much time on the internet.
He loves writing about people, especially people of all different shapes, sizes and backgrounds, falling in love. You might also find him playing video games from time to time! His favorite ones are MMORPGs, and role-playing games in general (and not just the ones in the bedroom.)
Frey is also a Featured Author in the SINsational Siren Showcase going on from August 5th to the 9th. Join the event to interact with Frey and 19 other of the best Erotica Writers.

When did you know you wanted to write erotica?
About a year ago, I was graduating from college (I graduated on my birthday, March 28, 2014!) and being rejected from jobs regularly kind of made me see that it was maybe a sign that I wasn’t cut out for work like that, so I tried to look at the avenues of my life I could turn into a living. I’ve always wanted to write a novel and I absolutely love the romance genre, so I decided to write how I felt and what I know and what I’ve researched and the rest is history!
Have you always been a sexual person, or grew that way later in life?
I’ve always been a little sexual, yup. I was one of those precocious kids who got their hands on a computer way too early, and had older brothers who didn’t know how to hide their porn well. So I learned quite a bit from the internet. The internet has been a basic building block of my twisted personality for quite some time now! 😉
Who’s your Favorite character from your novels, why, and from what book?
My NEW favorite character from my novels would have to be Nicodemus, from the Lykaios series. Of all of the alpha men that I’ve written, he is the most steadfast.
He’s loyal and he’s sweet and he might not have a winning sense of humor or be as exciting as some of my more hotheaded heroes, but he exemplifies the perfect man for me. He’s never going to hurt you and he’s always going to be there, wrapping you in his arms, and cheering you on. 😀
Do you think writing erotica makes you a target on Facebook from unsavory people?
Surprisingly, no! I keep a rather low profile and I’m usually afraid of talking to people. Even my reviewers and fellow writers, I might be seen as a little quiet. But if you talk to me first, I’m always happy to get a conversation going. I haven’t had any problems with unsavory people because I’m not exactly the easiest person to approach, I believe. 😛
Are there any erotic genres you don’t plan writing in and why?
I’d like to establish myself as someone who writes gay erotic romance, so in spite of my audience being primarily women I don’t think I’ll travel into heterosexual or lesbian territory anytime soon. I might change my mind in the future – who knows what the future holds? – but as of the moment I don’t exactly see myself writing in those particular genres of erotica/erotic romance. Mostly out of a sense of respect for my audience: I don’t want to write something that might accidentally offend someone with the lack of knowledge on my part.
Besides, I kind of like writing about guys a little bit more, especially in contemporary settings, when men are learning to come to terms with their own emotions, aside from the sexuality thing. 😀
Have you learned anything about yourself since you’ve been writing?
I’ve learned that I’m lazier than I originally thought I was. I mean it: I’m pretty lazy and there are some days where I might be too lazy to actually get up and write. I try to make each day count by writing at least 100-300 words (a good page’s worth) but I fail from time to time. 😀
What’s your short term and long term goals as a writer?
Short term, I want to come up with books that are as diverse and different as they are compelling. Relationships are nuanced and different and I want to showcase many different ones. But in the long term, I also want to be known for my writing.
A fellow author from Siren actually said that many of her readers call her the wolf queen, for her many works featuring wolf shifters… I want to have a similar title to my readers, so that when someone thinks, “oh, Frey Ortega? He’s the master of ____.” As to what that blank is, who knows? LOL
Fifty Shades of Gray – Hate it / Love It – why?
Take note that I haven’t read 50SoG so you should take my opinion with a grain of salt, but what I love is that it brought erotic romance to the mainstream eye and brought more people reading the genre and finding something that they love.
What I don’t like is that, with this success and new found audience, people either hold my books (and my fellow authors’ books) to the same standard. This can be a good or bad thing, but ultimately, 50SoG? It’s totally a double-edged sword for me.
Have you ever considered making one of your male characters a short, chunky nerdy type guy?
Yes. One of the beta males. I’ve written a lot of nerds, I think I’ve got it down pretty well, seeing as though I am one… LOL!
What’s your WIP or Next Release?
Nicodemus, the third book of the Lykaios series, is coming out in the third or fourth week of August!
Marry / Fuck / Kill — Ryan Gosling – Ryan Seacrest – Ryan Reynolds.
Marry Ryan Reynolds, because he knows how to make people laugh and he’s really handsome and I’ve had the biggest crush on him for the longest time; fuck Ryan Gosling, he seems like he’d be hot in bed; and despite me having a little crush on Ryan Seacrest, I’d kill him because with these two other Ryan’s, in my honest opinion, he would pale in comparison.
Name something that gets you in the mood and elaborate – if possible.
I like off-beat, off the wall things. My favorite scene would have to be this one scene where one of the men was tied up and pleasured in a sauna. He couldn’t move, the only thing he could do was breathe harshly and keep panting as this other guy sucked him off, played with his chest, kissed him… Keeping in mind that this was a big, muscular, alpha male-looking man and his partner was a little more on the thinner side, it was just the whole idea of someone so large giving up control and allowing this other person free reign over their bodies that really made me interested in the video. I watched all, like, 45 minutes of it, without even skipping. It was SO GOOD. LOL!
Thanks for the Informative and oh so Naughty Interview, Frey. Now, Lets take a Peek at a couple of his M/M Erotic Novels!
